I'm not sure that there's really anything to gain from having people write down their thoughts and impressions and dreams and whatnot when they first wake up, but I'm killing some time while my roommate's AA meeting is in progress in the main living room (blocking my path to coffee, though I'm probably thwarting myself with the spirit of over-conscientious politeness). So here's a few lines I was working out in my head before I got up. My mate and I were privileged enough not only to get to work together last night but to see the second snow this year in the area at about three in the morning last night.
Second Snow
The second snow knocks on the window
a few weeks after
First Snow (it's adorable, golden child) has already
waited to be seen, adored and romanticized. People take pictures.
Second snow you have a reckoning with,
and go out to look at that shit on your own time.
Third snow, fourth now, fifth snow
they are all tolerated, noisy, athletic cousins
to the second little boy snow that comes rapping on your window,
impatient and present.
Don't even get me started on Christmas Snow.
